Web Site Design: Quotes and Pricing (1/2/2006)

There are 3 ways to estimate a web site or other graphic design cost.

Time and Materials: This means you (the client) are charged for the billable time and any material costs. Often the material costs are low, however billable time can end up being very expensive, especially if you make changes during development phase. The billable rate for all people on the project varies from $8.00 hr to $300.00 hr.* We set a limit so the designer must talk to you before they continue doing any work. We may ask for you to sign a change order form so all parties are aware of any price increases.

Fixed Price: This is the safest way to guarantee your site will not go up in cost. We provide a written document that explains exactly what will be delivered to ensure both of us understand the requirements. Changes to the project during the development phase will generally lead to a new fixed price quote for the proposed changes, and will be tacked on to the original cost of the project.

Component Pricing: This type of pricing allows the client to see the components or modules that will comprise the web site, such as a form or a search script, before purchasing. These quotes are priced a la cart. This allows you to understand how much it will cost to add an additional page or function in the future.

Up front costs -We require 50% of the cost of the project upfront if we host the web site on our servers. The remaining balance is then paid after launching the site. Any web site programming or design work that is either commissioned or hosted on a server not in our control must be paid in full. in advance.

Billable Rates (US dollars/hour):

$8.00 - computer time to run an automated script or batch process, encode video or audio etc.
$30.00 - Typesetting or copying text
$75.00 - Photoshop work or Production Design
$120.00 - Video Editing or Flash Programming
$300.00 - Flash Design or Advanced Programming ie: Perl, Java, Cold Fusion, .net etc.
